Biosafety
The Biological Safety Program at Mississippi State University provides guidance for faculty, staff and students who work with biological agents. The goal is to maintain a safe and healthy work environment with emphasis on regulatory compliance with OSHA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
These pages provide safety and regulatory information for University faculty, staff and students using (1) human blood, blood products, human tissues and other potentially infectious materials such as human cell lines, (2) recombinant DNA technology, (3) infectious agents of humans, plants and animals, and (4) other biohazardous materials such as toxins or prions.
The University Biosafety Officer, a member of the Office for Regulatory Compliance, works closely with the Institutional Biosafety Committee and University personnel to ensure that the appropriate biosafety programs are in compliance with applicable regulations and have the desired protective effects.
