REGISTRATION FOR CAYUSE TRAINING: ANIMAL OVERSIGHT (IACUC)

We are offering TWO virtual training sessions to provide an overview of the new IACUC protocol submission process in Cayuse. Please register for one of the training options below. 
After this, we will schedule open sessions at our building if you have specific questions and need hands-on assistance with creating and submitting a protocol in the new system. 
Once we have those set up, they will be posted here.

Committee Charge

University instructors and researchers planning projects that utilize animals must submit their proposed protocol to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for review and approval of animal care and use aspects.

The IACUC at Mississippi State University is charged with:

• Establishing and reviewing compliance with standards and procedures relating to animal welfare of animals used in research and teaching; and
• Advising individuals and agencies dealing with such animals

2026 Meeting Schedule

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) will meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 PM during the Spring and Fall 2026 semesters. Meetings will be held in the 301 Building at the Research Park.

All new protocol submissions and amendments classified under Pain & Distress categories D or E require review by the Full Committee Review (FCR) and must be placed on the agenda for the month in which review is requested.

To be included on a monthly meeting agenda, protocols and amendments must be submitted through the ORC&S protocol system no later than 5:00 PM, ten (10) working days prior to the meeting date (approximately two weeks in advance).

All meeting dates are listed below; those scheduled near holidays may be subject to change.

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Staff strives to provide outstanding customer service to the MSU animal user research community by providing quality assistance and necessary resources while maintaining compliance with federal, local, and institutional rules and regulations. We are constantly streamlining our procedures so that interaction with our office staff reduces unnecessary burden to our researchers and provides them an avenue of ease in getting their research processed, reviewed, and approved.

All applications for review, modifications, annual updates, etc., must be submitted via the myProtocol system and will be processed by the IACUC staff promptly.
